Tiffany Scrolled Pin/Pendant

	One of the leading silver firms of the second half of the nineteenth century, Tiffany and Company of New York City achieved great renown for producing silverware of impeccable quality and design. In addition to flatware, tableware, and jewelry, Tiffany and Company developed presentation pieces—sumptuous silver and gold objects to commemorate special events. The Magnolia Vase was created for the World’s Columbian Exhibition of 1893, celebrating the four hundredth anniversary of Columbus’s discovery of the New World. The vase has a distinctly American theme, with details of native plants and flowers decorating the body of the vase. The curvilinear ornamentation on the handles recalls Toltec artifacts, and the overall form was inspired by relics of Pueblo pottery. The Museum’s Tiffany Scrolled Pin/Pendant is based on an element from the base of the Magnolia Vase. Sterling silver with abalone, lightly antiqued; hand made. Length 2 in., width 2 in.
