Sale - Jeweled Floral Earrings
Jeweled Floral Earrings
In England, France, and Spain in the late-18th and early-19th centuries, manufacturers of costume jewelry routinely substituted less expensive materials for the precious metals and gemstones that were used in the finest jewelry. Quartz crystals, rhinestones, zircons, white topazes, white sapphires, and marcasites (iron pyrite, sometimes known as "fool's gold") were often substituted for diamonds. Glass paste—cut glass that is faceted to resemble genuine gems or precious stones—was widely used because it was warmer in color and could be cast into any shape. The design on our earrings is based on an original 18th-century paste jewelry piece. Produced in cooperation with the Musée des Arts décoratifs, Paris.

Silver plate with crystals. Length 3/4 in. Pierced, with 14K white gold posts.
