Traveler's Writing Chest

	Written expression was very important in Victorian society. The ability to write a proper and attractive letter was a necessary skill for any 19th century lady, and other forms of writing, including personal diaries and travel journals, became increasingly popular during this time as well. Entertaining and descriptive writing was not only considered a social asset, but almost an art form in itself. For example, it was customary for Victorian travelers to send correspondence detailing their impressions of far away places and return with well-written travel journals recounting their adventures, complete with sketches and souvenirs. This reproduction of a traveler’s writing chest is reminiscent of those used in the Victorian period. The brass-hinged wooden box includes a wood stylus, six brass nibs, a glass writing pen, blue ink, and practice alphabets. Length 11 1/2 in., width 3 1/8 in., height 3 1/4 in.
