Sardis Column

	Our piece is adapted from a portion of a marble column from a temple dedicated to Artemis that was begun at Sardis, the capital at Lydia, around the turn of the 3rd century B.C. The temple ranks among the seven largest of all Greek temples. The original column would have risen to a height of fifty-six feet in its original location. Its shortened form is on view in Museum's Greek and Roman galleries. Cast marble, hand patinated. Height 7 1/2 in., width 4 1/2 in., depth 4 in.
