Sale - Unknown Artist: Sphinx of Hatshepsut
Unknown Artist: Sphinx of Hatshepsut
Hatshepsut, the great female pharaoh of Egypt’s 18th Dynasty, ruled for two decades—first as regent for, then as co-ruler with, her nephew Thutmose III (ca. 1479–1458 B.C.). Our reproduction is a reduced-scale facsimile of an Egyptian sphinx (about 1473–1458 B.C.) portraying Hatshepsut's head on the body of a lion. The colossal original, now in the Museum's collection, weighs more than seven tons.

Cast stone, hand patinated. Height including base 5 5/8 in., length 12 in., width 3 1/8 in.

Original price $225
