In conjunction with the opening of the New Greek and Roman Galleries in April 2007, the Museum unveiled the most recent collaboration with master jewelry designer Munnu Kasliwal. The Kasliwal family, owners of The Gem Palace in Jaipur, have supplied jewelry to India’s royal families for eight generations. Showcased as one of "The Fab Five" jewelry trendsetters in Town & Country’s January 2006 All the Best! issue, Munnu Kasliwal for this occasion has focused his talents on an exclusive collection in gold with precious and semiprecious stones inspired by objects from the Museum’s spectacular treasury of Greek and Roman art. This is the fifth collection of jewelry adaptations created for the Museum to accompany its exhibitions, and Kasliwal's designs continue to meet with high acclaim and delight Metropolitan Museum of Art Store clients.
This elegant 22K gold necklace exemplifies the refined style of jewelry common to the Roman culture prior to 27 B.C. Faceted gold beads in alternating sizes create this understated wearable design. Length 18 1/4 in., width 1/4 in.
