In honor of Philippe de Montebello—retired on December 31, 2008 after 31 years—this exhibition proposed and conceived by the curators brings together, for the first time, well over 250 masterpieces acquired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art during the director’s tenure. All of the Museum’s curatorial departments are represented by works ranging across the centuries from ancient prehistory to today and across the globe from Europe to Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Philippe de Montebello’s tenure at the Metropolitan Museum has also been marked by notable growth in the institution’s publishing program. Now the leading art book publisher in the United States, the Museum issues lavishly illustrated prize-winning collection and exhibition catalogues, plus periodicals, journals and a wide range of educational publications.Publication highlights during Philippe de Montebello's tenure include: |
