New - Chinese Dual-Spout Teapot

Introduced to Europe in the 14th century, Chinese porcelains were regarded as objects of great rarity and luxury. By the early 16th century—after Portugal established trade routes to the Far East and began commercial trade with Asia—Chinese potters began to produce objects specifically for export to the West. Our teapot is based on an original made in China in the late 17th century containing two chambers, one for brewing tea and one for hot water; an ingenious and elegant form allowing a harmonious couple to enjoy different strengths of tea simultaneously. The Museum’s Chinese Dual-Spout Teapot reproduces the appearance of the original, without the interior division, and is gracefully decorated with decals and hand painted by skilled artisans. Produced in cooperation with the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts.
