Antoine-Louis Barye: Rabbit

Romantic sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1795–1875) was fascinated by the primal energy of the animal world. Barye closely studied the anatomy and movement of animals, incorporating detailed attributes into his representations. Barye found his greatest success with small bronzes, and his small rabbit sculptures were among his most popular models and best sellers. Trained by a series of goldsmiths, Barye enlivened his subjects with minute detail, evident in the texture of the rabbit's fur captured in the original sculpture. Produced in cooperation with the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

Bonded bronze, hand patinated. Height 1 5/8 in., width 2 5/16 in., depth 1 1/4 in.
