Clearance - Floral Basket Candleholders

In the Museum’s collection is a beautiful, exquisitely detailed upright secretary (ca. 1787) that was probably made for the Versailles apartment of Louis XVI’s queen, Marie Antoinette. At the front corners of this fall-front desk, under the cornice, are caryatids made of ormolu, a type of gilt-bronze ornamentation prominent in Rococo and Neoclassical furniture. The caryatids are depicted holding tasseled cushions on their heads that are surmounted by simulated wickerwork baskets of fruit and flowers. Our candleholders are based on these baskets.
