Christ’s monogram, formed from the first two letters of his name in Greek (chi and rho), is called a Christogram, which early Christians used as a symbol of their faith. The design on our pendant is based on elements from a fragment of a sarcophagus (southwestern France, ca. 700s) and a tomb plaque (Byzantine or Visigothic; probably made in Spain; 400–800), that display Christograms, and are now in the collection of The Cloisters.

14K gold with 24K gold plate. Pendant diameter 1/2 in.; chain length 16 in.
