Russian Imperial Celebration Cross
Russian Imperial Celebration Cross

Peter Carl Fabergé (Russian, 1846–1920) revolutionized the way jewelry was evaluated in Russian by emphasizing creativity and workmanship over the use of precious stones and metals. His studio produced a wide variety of objets d'art, including magnificent jewelry, clocks, enamel cigarette cases, boxes, frames, and his ultimate achievement, a series of jeweled Easter eggs created for the Czars Alexander III and Nicholas II of Russia. Our Russian Imperial Celebration Cross is based on an element from the Nicholas and Alexandra Wedding Icon (1894), a folding triptych in silver gilt, enamel, and precious gemstones that was presented to Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna on her wedding day by her sister Grand Duchess Elizaveta. Made expressly for the Metropolitan Museum in the United States.

Bronze, with 24K gold plate. Chain length 18 in.
