Our pendant is adapted from a floral element from a pair of late 18th century French earrings now in the Museum's Costume Institute. The original pair of silver pendant earrings with glass diamonds represents the type of grand earrings that were fashionable before the French Revolution. The elegant, pendulous shape of the earrings suggests that they were probably worn for evening engagements; their crystals would have glittered in the candlelight that illuminated such eighteenth-century formal occasions.

14K white gold, hand set with genuine white sapphires. Pendant length 7/8 in.; chain length 18 in.
