New - Japanese Cranes and Flowers Jacquard Shawl

The graceful design on our silk jacquard shawl is based on details from one of a pair of six-panel Japanese folding screens in the Museum’s collection, titled Birds and Flowers of the Four Seasons. Our shawl is drawn from the screen in which springtime wildflowers and blossoming trees provide the setting for the main image of a crane with its young. The screens date from the Momoyama, or Peach Hill, period (1573–1615), a time of constant warfare when provincial warlords, called daimyo, began their struggle for control of Japan.

Imported silk jacquard. 84 in. x 30 in., with 1 in. self-fringe. Available in gray or gold.
