Published in conjunction with the exhibition "The Dawn of Photography: French Daguerreotypes, 1839–1855" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, September 23, 2003–January 4, 2004.

This exhibition catalogue CD-ROM includes essays by eight scholars that discuss not only the history and art of the daguerreotype but also its effect on the economics of Paris from 1839 to 1850, its presence in anthropology, and its eventual decline in the 1850s. Also included on the CD-ROM are a video introduction by Curator Malcolm Daniel, catalogue entries and color images of works from the exhibition, a computer animation on the daguerreotype process, an anthology of historical documents, a chronology, a bibliography, and an index of names and terms.

System requirements: Windows: Pentium processor-based PC or compatible system recommended, Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, 128 MB or more of installed RAM, 800 x 600 or greater display set to True Color (24-bit), 8x speed or faster CD-ROM drive, compatible sound card, QuickTime 6 (included on the CD). Macintosh: Power Macintosh Power PC processor (G3 or higher recommended), Mac OS 8.6/9 or Mac OS X (v10.1.5; v10.2.3 or later), 32 MB or more of installed RAM (128 MB or more for Mac OS X users), 800 x 600 or greater display set to thousands of colors, 8x speed or faster CD-ROM drive, QuickTime 6 (included on the CD).
