Ormolu refers to a type of gilt-bronze ornamentation, particularly used for furniture mounts and small decorative objects. The Museum's frame is based on an original, late 18th-century French ormolu decoration with an oak leaf and acorn motif that dates from the period of Louis XVI (reigned 1774–89).

Gold-plated pewter, antiqued, with a deep green hand-cut bevelled matte. 8 in. x 11 in. Holds a 4 3/4 in. x 6 3/4 in. photo.
