Clearance - Ancient Sichuan: Treasures from a Lost Civilization
Ancient Sichuan: Treasures from a Lost Civilization

Edited by Robert Bagley, with contributions by Jay Xu, Michèle Pirazzoli-t'Serstevens, Jenny F. So, Lothar von Falkenhausen, Alain Thote, Jessica Rawson, and Michael Nylan, 2001

The majority of the stunningly sophisticated bronze, jade, and clay works of art featured in this book—among the most unusual and spectacular produced anywhere in the ancient world—come from a startling archaeological discovery made in China in the late 1980's at the previously unknown site of Sanxingdui in Sichuan province. Remarkably varied, these striking objects include a monumental standing figure, masks and heads of fantastic supernatural beings, finely honed jade blades, ritual vessels, marvelous clay statuettes, and an almost life-sized bronze horse. This publication represents a unique international effort to continue the study of ancient Sichuan.

360 pages, 250 color illustrations, 22 halftones, 237 line illustrations, 9 3/4 in. x 12 in. Cloth.
