Italian Frescoes, Volume V: The Baroque Era
Italian Frescoes, Volume V: The Baroque Era
By Steffi Roettgen

This publication marks the fifth and final volume in the series of Italian frescoes, and features 25 fresco cycles from 1600–1800, each representing a notable achievement in the history of art. Among these cycles are brilliant works by Tiepolo, Sebastiano Ricci, Guercino, and Pietro da Cortona—works that are still visible on walls and ceilings of palaces and churches spanning Italy from Venice to Rome. This volume examines celebrated sites such as the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome and the Palazzo Pitti and the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence, as well as lesser-known gems. Each of the chapters is concise and authoritative, offering a descriptive and interpretive essay on all aspects of fresco painting, covering the artists and their patrons in the context of their cultural and political history. While being a continuation and conclusion of the previous four books, this publication easily stands alone as an incredible survey of the art and scholarship of Italian Baroque frescoes.

484 pages, 330 illustrations (260 in full color), 11 in. x 13 in. Hardcover; clothbound, with jacket.
