New - Ankh Pendant with Lapis

The design of our pendant is adapted from an ankh motif found on several objects in the Museum’s Egyptian Art collection. The ankh sign is an Egyptian hieroglyph that means "life" or "to live," and, as an amulet, was intended to protect the wearer from harm. It is frequently found in royal iconography, where it symbolizes the life force granted to the king by the deities. Such depictions include ankhs held to the noses of kings to impart the breath of life and the purification of the pharaoh in which streams of ankhs fall from vessels held over his head.
