Clearance - Greek Banded Palmette Tie
Greek Banded Palmette Tie

The palmette was a frequently used motif in classical art, lending itself to the most varied contexts, such as decorating a sculptured ornament on a marble monument or embellishing the handle zone of a vase. The design on the Museum’s tie is adapted from the ornament of palmettes on the neck of a terracotta amphora made in Greece in 530 B.C. now in our collection. The amphora’s body depicts the hero Herakles with his club raised in the air and the god Apollo clenching his bow and arrows as they struggle over the Delphic tripod, which Herakles sought to carry off.

Imported silk twill. Fully-faced, with self-loop. Width 3 3/4 in. Available only in terracotta.
