Acorn Placecard Holders

The Museum’s placecard holders are based on decorative elements from a design of a coffee urn and a covered tureen from about 1825–35 by the silversmithing firm Fletcher & Gardiner. Established in Boston in 1808 by Thomas Charles Fletcher (1787–1866) and Sidney Gardiner (1787–1829), the firm produced silver of unprecedented quality and elevated the significance of silver in America as a medium of public appreciation. Fletcher & Gardiner relocated to Philadelphia in 1811 in search of greater commercial success, and soon became the leading American supplier of presentation silver.
