Tooth Fairy Box

The rich history of American production in silver is well represented in the Museum’s American Wing galleries and in the Henry R. Luce Center for the Study of American Art. Highlights from the 1700s include an abundant collection of cups and porringers (small cups or bowls with one or two handles) of simple, uncomplicated design. An inscription of an owner’s initials is often visible on the body of a work in silver. Some examples also record the monograms of both the gift-giver and the recipient, an elegant record of an object’s descent through a particular family. Our Tooth Fairy Box is reproduced in the tradition of fine American silverwork in the Museum's collection.
