Adapted from 20th-century American and European footwear in the Metropolitan's Costume Institute, the Museum's shoe ornaments are a tribute to the irresistible allure of the shoe, considered akin to works of art by many fashion historians. A Museum tradition for nearly a decade, our meticulously crafted miniatures are decorated to closely match the details of the originals. This elegant ornament is based on an original American pair of evening pumps from 1984. These shoes are decorated with leather appliqués in bright, undulating splotches that spell “POWER” and “POP”—a reference to comic books and their exciting visual style. The original Pop Power Shoe was designed by Susan Bennis Warren Edwards.

Cast resin and fabric, hand painted. Length 3 3/4 in. Includes a golden cord for hanging.
