The pattern on our placemats is adapted from the image on a six-paneled folding screen executed in mineral colors and gold on a gold leaf-papered wood lattice by Japanese artist Suzuki Kiitsu (1796–1858). Kiitsu, trained as a textile dyer, studied painting under Sakai Hoitsu (1761–1828), with whom he prepared the illustrated book One Hundred Paintings by Korin, a compendium of classic Rinpa art.

Laminated, cork-backed. 15 3/4 in. x 11 3/4 in. Boxed set of 4.
