Tulip Tray
Tulip Tray

The tulip was introduced to Europe from Turkey in the 16th century and became a favorite flower in the 17th century, particularly in Holland in the 1630s and 1640s. During this period of enthusiasm for tulips, botanical artists such as Jacob Marrel (Dutch, 1614–1681) were commissioned to paint books of tulips that served as catalogues to display the flowers when not in season. The tulip designs on this tray are adapted from delicately painted watercolors in the Museum's collection that formed part of an album by Jacob Marrel.

Earthenware, with decal. Length 10 7/8 in., width 6 in., depth 1 in. Microwave and dishwasher safe.
