William® Tote Bag

This canvas tote bag features the image of an Egyptian faience hippopotamus that dates from Dynasty 12, ca. 1981–1885 B.C. The Museum's original was found in a tomb of the steward Senbi at Meir. Since its arrival at the Museum in 1917 the sculpture has been a favorite with visitors, and for many years has been known as "William"—the Metropolitan's unofficial mascot. Like the original, our rendition of William on this tote bag is decorated with drawings of lotus blossoms and marsh plants which remind us of his favorite habitat, the shallow banks of the Nile River.

Sturdy cotton canvas. Made in U.S.A. Height 14 in., width 10 in., depth 5 in.; strap length 24 in.
