New - Christopher Dresser Medallion-Pattern Tie

The intricate design on this silk necktie has been adapted from an original Japanese-inspired design (now in the Museum’s collection) by Christopher Dresser (British, 1834–1904). Associated with the design reform movement in the second half of the 19th century, Dresser is considered the first industrial designer. He found inspiration in plants and their structures, which he determined were geometrically balanced, and took a radically scientific approach to art and design. He followed the precept that “All ornament should be based upon a geometrical construction”—clearly demonstrated in this pattern.

Imported silk twill. Fully faced, with self-loop. Width 3 3/4 in. Available in red, gold, sage, or blue.
