New - Lincoln President-Elect—Abraham Lincoln and the Great Secession Winter, 1860-1861
Lincoln President-Elect—Abraham Lincoln and the Great Secession Winter, 1860-1861

By Harold Holzer

Award-winning Lincoln scholar and cochairman of the U.S. Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Harold Holzer focuses on a little-examined period of Lincoln’s presidential career—the four months between his election to office and Inauguration Day. By late 1860, four slaveholding states in the Deep South were threatening secession. Lincoln was not yet in office, but he set a firm course for his future presidency. With shrewd timing, brilliantly crafted statements, and personal persuasion, Lincoln refused to compromise on the threatened secession. His stance made war inevitable but ensured an end to slavery in America.

600 pages. 16 pages of illustrations. 6 1/4 in. x 9 1/4 in. Hardcover; clothbound, with jacket.
