Peter Carl Fabergé (Russian, 1846–1920), jeweler to the last two czars of the Romanov dynasty, emphasized creativity and workmanship in making his intricate objets d'art, which included magnificent jewelry, clocks, enamel cigarette cases, boxes, and frames. Less familiar are his flower and plant creations, inspired by the striking simplicity of Chinese carved-hardstone blossoms. Our pin is adapted from an original raspberry objet d’art of rock crystal, gold, and nephrite from around 1900. Produced in cooperation with the British Royal Collection and made expressly for the Metropolitan Museum in the United States.

Patinated bronze, with garnets. Length 2 5/8 in., width 1 5/8 in.
