The 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia first brought the designs of reformer William Morris (British, 1834–1896) to the attention of the American public who became captivated by his fresh patterns and flat, naturalistic flower, foliage, vine, and bird designs. The pattern on this cosmetic bag is adapted from a detail of Compton, a wallpaper pattern designed by Morris.

Imported nylon, with zipper closure. Height 4 in., width 7 in., depth 1 1/2 in.
