Hana in the Time of the Tulips
Hana in the Time of the Tulips

By Deborah Noyes, with illustrations by Bagram Ibatoulline

It is 17th-century Holland, and Hana loves her walks with her father in their garden. But ever since the tulip fever erupted, Hana's father has been consumed by greed, and he is too busy to walk in the garden or even kiss Hana good night. Worse still, the tulip market is crashing, and Hana's father is falling into despair. Now it's up to Hana to remind her father of what's truly valuable. With a little advice from her friend, Rembrandt, Hana paints a rare tulip for her father and, finally, his smile returns. With beautiful drawings and illustrations evoking the style and tone of Dutch paintings, this story depicts a poignant portrait of love between parent and child.

29 pages, color illustrations throughout, 11 in. x 10 in. Hardcover. Ages 6–11.
