Garnets mined in Bohemia, the historical name for the region in central Europe occupying the western and middle thirds of the present Czech Republic, are of a rare high quality and are prized for their fiery-red coloring. The mid-19th-century original pendant on which the Museum’s Bohemian Cross is based is made from garnets and pearls, and is a beautiful example of the craftsmanship of the era. Produced in cooperation with the Museum of Decorative Arts, Prague-UPM.

24K gold-plated sterling silver, with garnets and cultured freshwater pearls. Cross length 1 1/4 in., chain length 18 in.
