The front and back covers of this journal reproduce a striking design from a French fabric dating from the 1860s. The intricate and lush images were hand-painted or block-printed on paper in order to create the original pattern, which would have been used to make a template for the mass production of the fabric. Reminiscent of a phoenix in the flames, this spectacular stylized peacock is poised in a border that swirls with textured motifs in fiery colors.

160 lined archival quality acid-free pages. 5 in. x 7 in. Hardcover; smyth sewn, with an expandable inner pocket, a front-wrap magnetic closure, and a ribbon marker.
