Clearance - Tiffany Pear and Apple Vase
Tiffany Pear and Apple Vase

A master of many media, Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) was one of America's most noted decorative artists at the turn of the century. Son of the founder of the silver and jewelry firm Tiffany and Company of New York, Louis Tiffany began his career as a painter but moved quickly to interior decoration and other decorative media. In addition to leaded-glass windows and lighting fixtures, Tiffany Studios produced exceptional works in wood, bronze, and enamel, as well as jewelry, blown glass, pottery, furniture, and textiles. As in his glass, the main decoration of Tiffany’s pottery was derived from nature, and he frequently used natural forms, such as the pear and apple motif, in his works. Our vase is based on an original by Tiffany made about 1904–14. Of extraordinary interest is the extended leaf that rises above the rim of the vase—the effect adds a sculptural aspect to a utilitarian piece. Produced in cooperation with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond.

Earthenware, hand glazed. Height 6 3/4 in., diameter 4 1/4 in.
