Mackintosh Watch
Mackintosh Watch

Celebrated architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh (Scottish, 1868–1928) designed buildings, interiors, and furnishings that combined the aesthetic of the Arts and Crafts movement with traditional Scottish architecture. Our watch is based on the face of a mantle clock created by Mackintosh in 1917. A simple design, the original clock consists of a cube supported by ten uprights made of ebonized wood. The numerals are inlaid in ivory around a twelve-sided slab of green Erinoid, an early synthetic material made from resin or protein plastic. A small ivory triangle is set at the base of each of the ten square supports, which rest on a stepped base inlaid with alternating strips of ivory and wood. This clock was part of Mackintosh’s final design commission, after which he moved to France, where he devoted his life to painting watercolors. Produced in cooperation with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond.

Stainless steel case and a croco-embossed leather strap. With Swiss movement. Length 9 5/8 in., face diameter 1 1/2 in.
