Baroque Multi-Strand Pearl Necklace

A prolific painter, draftsman, and etcher, Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) is regarded as one of the greatest artists of Holland’s “Golden Age.” Although he never went abroad, Rembrandt voraciously surveyed the work of Northern artists who had lived in Italy. A crucial aspect of Rembrandt’s development was his intense study of people, objects, and their surroundings. He captured fine details in his work, that reflect realistic and authentic portrayals of his subjects. The elegant design of the Museum’s necklace is inspired by the pearl jewelry worn by women in Rembrandt’s portraits.
