By Vincent Giroud, 2006 Completed in 1906, the Portrait of Gertrude Stein was the first major work by Pablo Picasso to enter the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, when Stein herself bequeathed it to the Museum in 1946. This volume celebrates the 100th anniversary of the creation of this renowned work, as well as the 60 years this painting has served as a cornerstone of the Metropolitan Museum's collection of modern art, which now includes more than 30 paintings by Picasso and another hundred of his pastels, watercolors, and drawings.
