The Print in the North: The Age of Albrecht Dürer and Lucas van Leyden
The Print in the North: The Age of Albrecht Dürer and Lucas van Leyden

By Suzanne Boorsch and Nadine M. Orenstein, 1997

The Metropolitan has one of the finest collections of northern Gothic and Renaissance prints in the world. Particularly strong in the works of Martin Schongauer, Dürer, and Lucas, the holdings also include a number of unique images, such as the leaf ornament by Master W with Key and Master bxg's "The Lovers." The German and Netherlandish works illustrated and discussed in this publication are masterpieces in printmaking; they were produced in northern Europe between about 1440 and 1550, the period when woodcut, engraving, and etching came into their own as artistic media.

60 pages, 70 illustrations (13 in full color), 8 1/2 in. x 11 in. Paper.
