New - Tiffany Mosaic Striped Tie

A master of many media, Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) was one of America’s most noted decorative artists at the turn of the century. He began his career as a painter but moved quickly to interior decoration and leaded-glass windows, creating innovative types of opalescent glass that radiated deep, vibrant hues. His studios also made luminous glass vases and bowls, pottery, furniture, textiles, jewelry, and works in bronze and enamel. Exhibited in Tiffany’s showrooms on Madison Avenue was a pair of mosaic columns inlaid with glass tesserae—this style of mosaic was a concept from Roman and Byzantine eras. The columns, in their subtle shading from midnight blue to pale peacock, reveal Tiffany’s mastery of the medium. Our silk necktie is adapted from the mosaic design on these columns.
