Tiffany View of Oyster Bay Scarf
Tiffany View of Oyster Bay Scarf

The design on our View of Oyster Bay Scarf is adapted from a stained-glass window designed by the Tiffany Studios for the home of William C. Skinner that depicts an idealized landscape viewed through a canopy of wisteria. Son of the founder of the silver and jewelry firm Tiffany and Company of New York, glassmaker Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) developed art glass that achieved subtle effects of shading and texture. He began his career as a painter but moved quickly to interior decoration and leaded-glass windows. He created revolutionary types of opalescent glass that radiated especially deep, vibrant hues, using variations in color and thickness of glass to achieve pictorial effects of unsurpassed subtlety and beauty. Under his direction, Tiffany Studios produced leaded-glass windows, lamps, and other extraordinary blown glass creations. Produced in cooperation with the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, Winter Park, Florida.

Imported silk chiffon. 36 in. square.
