Met Bestseller - Russian Imperial Wild Rose Necklace

Peter Carl Fabergé (Russian, 1846–1920), jeweler to the last two czars of the Romanov dynasty, emphasized creativity and workmanship in making his intricate objets d'art, which included magnificent jewelry, clocks, enamel cigarette cases, boxes, and frames. Less familiar are his flower and plant creations, inspired by the striking simplicity of Chinese carved-hardstone blossoms. The motif on our necklace is adapted from the original Wild Rose Brooch, an objet d’art of gold and enamel from around 1900 that was owned by Russian Empress Alexandra Feodorovna (1872–1918). Produced in cooperation with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond. Made expressly for the Metropolitan Museum in the United States.

24K gold plate, with cultured freshwater pearls and hand-applied enamel. Length 18 in.
