Search Tips

Results in The Met Store are returned with a summary at the top of the page that displays the total number of results, followed by the number of results found within each Met Store category. Below the results summary, the two most relevant results within each category are displayed, along with a link to all of the results for that category (when applicable).

Sort Results: Results can be sorted by category, price low to high, price high to low, bestsellers, new, or sale by selecting an option from the pull-down menu below the results summary. Category is the default view.

Search within Results: To refine your search, enter an additional keyword or phrase in the box below the results summary. The results returned will match both the current and the additional search terms.

Search by Price Range: To search for products within a specific price range, you may either type the price in words or use symbols. For example, to search for earrings under $50, type in "earrings under $50," or "earrings <$50," or "earrings under fifty dollars." To search for prints between $100 and $200, type in "prints between $100 and $200" or "prints $100 to $200." Results can be sorted further by selecting the price low to high or price high to low option from the pull-down menu below the results summary.

Truncation/wildcarding: You can use an asterisk (*) to truncate any search term. For instance, to find products or publications related to a particular country or culture such as "China," entering "Chin*" will locate more products than "China" or "Chinese" alone.

Accented letters: Accented letters do not need to be entered in the search. For example, search results for "Faberge" will be the same as those for "Fabergé."

Capitalization: Searching is not case-sensitive. All letters will be understood as lowercase.

Exact phrase: Use quotation marks (" ") to search for an exact phrase, such as "framed print" or "hoop earrings."

Misspelled words: Misspelled words will generally be found. If a word has multiple spellings ("Brueghel" and "Bruegel"), or if you are unsure of the spelling, you may use a question mark (?) to replace a single character, or an asterisk (*) to replace multiple characters (for example, "Br*g*l").

Artist/Author/Title of Work: To find reproductions of works by a particular artist or publications by a particular author, enter a full name or part of a name (such as "Vincent van Gogh," "Henri," or "Tiepolo"). You may also enter the title or partial title of an artwork or publication (such as "Irises" or "Age of the Pyramids").

Time Period: To find products related to original works created during a particular century or time period, or publications about a particular century or time period, enter the name or partial name of the period (such as "Qing dynasty," "Qing," or "17th century"). You may also enter a specific date or partial date truncated with an asterisk.

Product Category: You can enter a category name (such as "stained glass" or "scarves") to see our offerings in that category. It may be even more effective, however, to Browse The Met Store, since products are grouped by category and the terms you have entered may not be part of a product’s description, or consult the Met Store Category Index.
