This painting depicts an iron bridge over the Shetucket River near the Weir family's summer home in Windham, Connecticut. It is one of the few American Impressionist paintings to show an interest in industrialization. Another example in Weir's work displaying a similar interest is The Factory Village of 1897 (1979.487). This painting remained in the artist's possession until at least 1910, and was widely exhibited. It was not signed until 1914, when it was presented to the Museum.
