This grand piano, with patent resonator and patent double repeating action, has a rosewood case, three carved serpentine legs, and a fretwork system. By the 1860s, Steinway & Sons had become the leading piano manufacturer in America. The company's innovations, which included the cast iron frame and overstringing, were adopted by piano manufacturers worldwide.
