This witty and vividly colored battery-powered portable radio was intended to appeal to a youthful consumer market. Easy and inexpensive to mass produce, the appliance typifies the populist approach of 1960s design. Its tapering doughnut-shaped external casing is hinged and, when twisted open, reveals the tuning dial on the inside. When closed, the radio either can be carried like a purse or slipped over the wrist like a bracelet; when open, its shape suggestively evokes a double trumpet.
