Fragmentary terracotta pinax (plaque) with a dancing girl, 5th century B.C.

A good example of a kalathiskos dance is represented on several plaques excavated in Praisos on Crete. On this example, a girl dressed in a short chiton and kalathos (boxlike headdress) dances in front of a tall, bending plant.
