  • Kero with Registers of Pumas, Parrots, and Flowers Separated by Bands of Carved Geometric Designs (Tocapus), 16th–18th century
    Peru
    Wood with pigmented resin inlay

    H. 8 5/8 in. (21.9 cm)
    Bequest of Arthur M. Bullowa, 1993 (1994.35.14)

The puma and parrot registers are also interspersed with tocapus, Inkan heraldic devices whose meaning is still unclear. The repetitive unidirectional animal friezes suggest an early date.
