The Angel of the Annunciation, ca. 1500
Raffaellino del Garbo (Raffaelle di Bartolommeo di Giovanni di Carlo) (Italian, Florentine, probably born before 1479, died 1524 or later)
Pen and brown ink and wash with white gouache over black chalk; outlines pricked for transfer; 3 3/16 x 3 3/16 in. (9.7 x 9.7 cm)
Rogers Fund, 1912 (12.56.5a)

This delicate study was one of many made by Raffaellino as models for embroidered figures. The figural type and the delicacy of line and white gouache heightening are typical of Raffaellino's drawings and reflect the impact of his master Filippino Lippi.
