Rogers Fund, 1944 (44.113)
This is one of three similar samplers (the other two are in private collections) that can be traced to girls who lived in the Franklin/Norwich area of Connecticut. Illustrated with exotic scenes of faraway lands, they are some of the most unusual samplers stitched by early nineteenth-century schoolgirls. Laura Hyde embroidered her sampler with images of India that she probably copied from a history or geography text.
