Foliate Ornament, ca. 1470
Master W with the Key (Netherlandish, active ca. 1465–90)
Engraving; 11 1/2 x 4 1/4 in. (29.2 x 10.6 cm)
Harris Brisbane Dick Fund, 1929 (29.16.1)

This Gothic leaf design, known only in this impression, is the Master's most beautiful and monumental ornament print. More than half of the eighty-two engravings by this anonymous artist, presumed to have been active as a goldsmith in Bruges, represent designs for objects and constructions—Gothic chapels, ornate vessels, altarpiece frames, and saints set within elaborate architecture.
